When releasing music, it's important to have control over your artist profiles across the various platforms used by fans to enjoy your Single, E.P or Album releases. With the current choices of “For Artist” apps, it’s never been easier to have control over aspects that exceed just the music.
When it comes to categorising your discography though, it’s important to know that various platforms have slightly different rules when putting those releases into sections. Decisions are usually based on a combination of the Tracklist and Running Time.
Information below will outline when you should expect to see your releases appear as a Single, E.P or Album on Apple Music and Spotify.
Apple
- Single: 1-3 Tracks (Less than 10 minutes each)
- E.P: 1-3 Tracks (At least 1 track is more than 10 minutes - Total running time 30 Mins or less)
- E.P: 4-6 Tracks (Total running time 30 Mins or less))
- Album: Anything above
Note: Apple will add “Single” or “E.P” to the title if this isn’t already included
Spotify
- Single: 1-3 Tracks (Less than a total running time of 30 Minutes)
- E.P: 4-6 Tracks (Total running time 30 Mins or less)
- E.P: 6+ Tracks (Running time less than 30 minutes)
- Album: Anything above
Note: Spotify categorises Singles and E.Ps together. A change in format would still not effect placement.
Please know that we cannot arrange to move your product over to a different section on request as this display follows policies that are set by the platforms and are at their discretion.
We’re also unable to make any amendments to tracklisting once a product has been approved in our system. This means in order for you to make the change you’ve requested, you’ll need to re-upload the product.
If you are waterfalling or releasing with a specific aesthetic in mind, please take into consideration the above before submitting your release via the AWAL Portal.
