You will credit artists and other additional contributor roles, such as featured artists, remixers, songwriters, and producers, across your release. You'll need to credit these contributors on Step 3 and Step 5 of the AWAL Uploader.
You’ll need to enter primary artist credits on every release you upload to AWAL, however if your release features more than one artist you’ll need to also credit them accordingly. You’ll enter artist credits at the Release level (Step 3 of the Uploader)* and the Track level (Step 5 of the Uploader)
Primary Artist - Select this role to credit the primary artist on your release. If you have more than one primary artist on your release, please click ‘+ Add Another Artist’.
Featured Artists - Any artist featuring on your track/product (such as providing guest vocals or a guest verse) should be entered here. To add multiple featuring artists please click ‘+Add Another Artist’.
With - This can be used as an alternative to the “Featured” role. For example, this would be an appropriate usage if a main artist and a standalone band collaborate on a project. ‘With’ and ‘Featuring’ roles may be displayed in different ways though depending on the digital service.
*Note: Artist information should only be entered in the Release Artists section (Step 3 of the AWAL Uploader) if the artists feature on 50% or more of the tracks or if it’s a single track release. If the above is not true for some of your artists, please only credit them in the Track Information section (Step 5 of the AWAL Uploader).
The below roles will only be available to add to your release on the Track Information step (Step 5 of the Uploader).
Some roles such as ‘Composer’ are genre specific, so please be cautious when entering additional contributor roles on your release. Please get in touch via the Portal for exact instructions as to how you should be adding in Additional Contributors on Bollywood releases.
Songwriter (required) - A songwriter is someone who has been involved in the writing of the lyrics and music. Providing songwriter information is required. Songwriter credits require full, legal first and last names. Band or stage names cannot be accepted. For Soundtrack, Classical, Classical Crossover or Opera releases, please also use the Composer role..
Lyricist - The lyricist is the person who has written the lyrics to the song. If you've already credited an individual as a songwriter you should not also credit them as a lyricist.
Engineer - An engineer is someone who has worked on the recording of a track. This includes the production, mixing, and effects.
Note: If your release is mastered for Apple Digital Masters, you’ll need to provide the engineer's name and email in the 'Comments and T&Cs' field in the 'Review Your Release' step of the Uploader as well.
Producer - A producer can have different levels of involvement on a release. For example, this can be someone who has gathered ideas, suggested changes, controlled and supervised recording sessions. Please do not credit producers in your release or track titles.
Remixer – If the track is a remix, use the remixer role to credit the remix artist. Remixers generally should not be credited as primary artists.
The Additional Contributor roles below are genre-specific. If these roles were incorrectly added to your release, it may be queried and returned to your Portal for edits:
Composer - The track’s composer should be entered here. The composer is the person who has written the music. This is essential for any release that falls under the genre of Soundtrack, Classical, Classical Crossover or Opera. For other genres, use the Songwriter role instead.
Chorus / Ensemble / Orchestra / Arranger / Soloist - These credits should only be used for Classical releases.
Actor / Musical Director - These credits should only be used for Bollywood releases.
Singer - These credits should only be used on Musical Theatre or Bollywood releases.
